Testbed 2 - Questions and Answers

After the introduction to Testbed 2 on March 14th, 2025, the following questions were asked.

  • Some research topics are about finding data from providers that already have implemented iShare and not the other way around, which would be implementing iShare on top of a catalogue. Is that correct?
Yes. We are focusing on the clientside first. Next year we will move more into data spaces.

  • There are multiple subsidies running on digital twins projects. Are consortia when already funded eligable to get funding for testbed2?
We have put a restriction in our call concerning DMI participants for the iShare topic as they are already funded for this work. For the other topics you are welcome to apply.

  • Is it possible to tender for multiple adoption topics or is this only valid for research topics?
It is possible to apply for multiple adoption and for multiple research topics. For the research topics we will select one party per sub-topic. For the adoption topics we can select up to three parties per sub-topic.

  • What are the selection criteria?
We distinguish two types of criteria in the selection process: there are specific criteria for research topics and there are specific criteria for adoption topics. The implementation of standards into products and how they are used in the market is rated high in comparison to the rest of the criteria.
Important to know is that for adoption topics the emphasis lies on the practical implementation of the NLDT architecture building blocks that facilitate the Dutch market.

  • Does your company have to be based in The Netherlands to be able to apply for topics in this testbed and or do your colleagues have to be stationed in The Netherlands?
To research topics, any party from any country can apply.
The aim of the adoption topics is to stimulate the implementation of the building blocks of the NLDT architecture in the Netherlands; you have to operate in the Netherlands and the use of the products has to be initially deployed in the Netherlands. This does not imply that your headoffice has to be situated in The Netherlands or that your staff is based here.

  • Is it possible to apply to topics both as individual party as well as in a consortium for a specific topic?
If a consortium applies for a specific sub-topic, a member of that consortium is excluded to apply for that same sub-topic.

  • Is it possible to apply to several research topics from one consortium?
Yes, with the restriction: If a consortium applies for a specific sub-topic, a member of that consortium is excluded to apply for that same sub-topic.

  • If you have multiple “parties” in a consortium, with e.g. multiple viewers, is that considered to be one party (meaning one budget for funding) or multiple parties?
If you apply as consortium, you can only receive funding for one sub-topic.

  • There are two use cases mentioned regarding sustainability. Will there be more use cases?
The results of the Testbed2 will have to be presented/communicated following a storyline based on multiple or combined use cases. We will use the use cases to make a storyline. This is a joint effort of the awarded party and Geonovum. You are welcome to bring forward additional use cases.

  • Are there any specific platforms which should be used for the integration of the BIM research topic?
It is the choice of the researcher how to implement it. We are looking for ways to pull in selections of (partial) IFC models in viewers: e.g. putting a webservice on top of an IFC.
